Distracting thoughts? Overthinking? Stuck in a past experience? Anguished by anxiety and worry? A plethora of research supports the effectiveness of meditation in managing stress. Even a few minutes a day can have a meaningful impact in your life.

But meditation is hard for me! I can’t sit still. My mind won’t stop. I’ve tried it before and it didn’t work. I can’t tell if I’m doing it right.

Misconceptions and myths about what meditation is can be the biggest obstacle in starting a meditation practice. Meditation is not a one-size-fits-all, it is not “stopping the mind,” and it does not have to be sitting with your eyes closed. Finding the kind that works for your personality is the key to getting started. Together, we can explore some options that fit you and your lifestyle.

So, what should I expect?

A few minutes of deep breathing is fundamental tool in any meditation practice. Don’t worry, I’ll walk you through it. Meditation sessions are guided and designed to assist you in overcoming the constant distracting chatter of the mind. I will often start with mindfulness to focus on using the senses to strengthen present-moment awareness. I incorporate pranayama (the yoga of breath) exercises as indicated to help with grounding, finding balance, calming, or activating energy.
